Further details for this vacation villa rental in Mahahual, Yucatan / Mayan Riviera
Things to do at Casa Que Canta: The area is rich in Mayan culture and history. Nearby ruins of Chacchoben are a must visit along with Kohonlich and Dzibenache if you have time. Lake Bacalar and the old Spanish fort also make a great day trip. The area is also rich in Cennotes some of which are almost too beautiful to describe. Hidden Worlds Cenote has been featured on a National Geographic special. Bone fishing, Tarpon fishing, and Permit are all available in the area - we are told it is a world class location for these top three fly fishing species. Majahual itself is a fast growing Mexican fishing village with many good restaurants and nice shops. Very busy on cruise ship days, but extremely quiet in between. Beaches are wonderful. A recent new attraction is a Jungle Zip line tour just outside of Bacalar (one hour away). We have done this with friends and it is a great family excursion. The tour is extremely safe and suitable for both adults and children.
Water Sports: Traveling to Mexico for many is all about the Ocean and the beach. The Costa Maya is blessed with some of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico - almost all of them protected by the worlds 2nd largest barrier reef. The reef at Casa Que Canta is only 200 meters off shore. This means the swimming is exceptional - no currents - no rip tides - extremely safe even for small children. The waves are very light and the depth drops off slowly - you can walk out 100 meters and still be wait high. The reef provides great snorkeling - tons of corral - fish - even an occasional lobster is you watch closely. The nearby fisherman go out almost everyday and can provide fresh fish for use on the grill. Or if you like bring a spear gun and try getting your own. Snorkeling from the kayaks we have is great on the calmer days and very safe.
Bonefishing and Offshore fishing charters: We recently added on site fishing charters with a top area guide - Carlos Cartillos - for both fly fishing and off shore fishing. These charters are all inclusive and include boat, captain, fishing equipment, licenses, bait, and for all day charters lunch with refreshments. The Coasta Maya is famous for its fishing - particularly Bonefish, Permit, and Tarpon. If you are interested in an all inclusive fishing vacation please email us for details and rates. Carlos is an excellent guide and has been written up several times in U.S. fishing magezines.
